When it comes to WoW there are several ways to make tons of gold. One of the best ways to make gold however, is optimizing certain professions. As you probably know by now, all your characters can take three secondary professions which are Fishing, Cooking and First Aid. Besides that you can also choose two primary professions. Deciding which professions to take can be a tough choice and in my years of experience I have seen a lot of people with the weirdest combinations and some of them really regretted not choosing a better match at an earlier stage before spending a lot of time and gold to level up their professions. In an attempt to save you from a similar feeling I will try to explain you which professions are a good match.
Secondary professions – Should you level these?
The secondary professions have become more and more important through the past few years. They are not directly connected with making tons of gold but money can be made with them. You should try to level them for other purposes as well though.
With First Aid you can’t make any gold. First Aid only allows you to turn cloth which you find on majority of the Humanoid mobs in WoW into bandages which can be used to bandage yourself and others. The bandages improve as you level up this profession and can come in handy in tricky situations. Indirect they can actually save you some cash since you will die less often when you use bandages at the right moments which means that you have a smaller repair bill.
Cooking is another nice profession which allows you to turn all kinds of meat and fish you get into food that can also increate stat points. Naturally, this food can be eaten by you so you become a bit stronger or it can be sold on the Auction House for nice amounts of gold. Leveling cooking is therefore a nice secondary profession to level.
Fishing is also great since you can directly sell the fish you catch on the Auction House or make something nice out of them with your cooking skill and then sell them.
Primary professions
When it comes to the primary professions you have quite a few choices. When you want to go purely for making money you might take two gathering professions like Mining and Skinning or Herbalism and Skinning. Herbalism and Mining will not be that good of a combination since you can only track one type at the time on your mini map and in most cases veins and herbs are hard to spot. With these gathering professions you can make tons of gold by directly selling whatever you gather on the Auction House.
Enchanting and Tailoring is a good combination. Tailoring is quite easy to level since you only have to have a lot of cloth in most cases and some ingredients that you get with your Enchanting. You can then make clothes with your Tailoring profession and Disenchant the clothes into Dusts, Essences and Shards which you can use to level your Enchanting. As you can see, taking these two professions will save you a lot of money that you otherwise have to spend on buying specific materials.
Mining and Jewelcrafting is also nice since every player above circa level 70 wants gems in their gear. With Mining profession you can easily gather the gems, cut them into nice gems with your Jewelcrafting profession and sell them. Gems do sell like crazy so you can make good profit with these two professions.
Other combinations which allow you to make loads of gold are:
Blacksmithing – Mining (can make belt buckles, tanking armor)
Alchemy – Herbalism (can make potions and flask from herbs)
