Leveling is a time taking in the World of Warcraft. Whether you’re a new player with no experience or are a WoW veteran with a dozen characters that just can’t be bothered with leveling yet another character, we can all use some advice and tips from time to time. Below you can find why addons can help you get better, enjoy the process of leveling a bit more and also level up faster.
World of Warcraft is one of the first games where addons are so widely used. Addons are basically separate components for the game that can be installed on your computer. There are various sites where you can find information about addons and download them as well. What you should do next is open the WoW folder on your computer and find a folder called addons. Simply add the addons to that folder and start your game. Once you have entered you username and password and get to the screen where you can choose your character, you see the “addon” option in the left down corner. This is where you go to activate or deactivate addons. Once activated you can log in on one of your characters and see what the addons exactly do. There are hundreds of different addons and personally I only prefer using a few of them. I also know people however that have their entire set up based on addons, changed their entire display, moved all the bars etc. and have a dozen or so other addons that show on their screen. It gets a bit stuffy for my taste but they seem to love it. Basically there is something for everybody but here are my favorites:
Gatherer: automatically stores the location of veins and herbs on the map which is nice if you want to grind some of these for materials.
Damage meter: I always liked to compete with other players on the damage meter with my DPS characters. It adds a bit of fun to the game when you know how you are actually doing compared to others. It’s also fun during the leveling to see your progress.
Threat meter: doing a lot of damage or healing so much that you get a nerve breakdown is fun and exciting but you shouldn’t jeopardize your group or party by overdoing it and pulling mobs and bosses from the tank and on yourself. This is why you need to keep an eye on the threat meter and make sure that create less threat than the tank.
Leveling addon: Several leveling guides come with ingame leveling addons. These usually consist of some kind of advanced quest logs but more importantly, they come with some type of notification that shows you which way to go to do certain quests and in which order to complete these to level up in the fastest way possible. Since the traveling time and searching time usually takes up a lot of time, these types of addons can really speed up things for you and with them you can avoid running back and forth in the same area which can be annoying.
